First of all, you could find the world best musicians in Paris, and to be able to study with them was such a privilege. Throughout history, Paris has always been the centre of art. From the fashion of playing harp influenced by the French Queen Marie Antoinette, to the innovation of the modern double action pedal harp, to the publishing of Debussy’s innovative Danse Sacrée et Profane and Ravel’s captivating Introduction et Allegro, Paris has always played an important role in pivotal moments of harp developments.

Moreover, being the cultural hub, you are offered many performance opportunities. And meeting friends who are on the same path in the pursuit of arts, be it be music, fine arts, design, architecture, fashion, exchange of ideas constantly take place. Interesting moments were like going to a Japanese restaurant and overhearing the table next to you talking about Debussy, and your landlord humming Opera arias while cooking etc, the city is immersed in art.
Moreover, there are plenty of world class performances in Paris every single day, all listed out in a magazine like TV programme of the last generation. The constant exposure to premium performances elevates one’s perception of art, the intangible sensations can be infused to your own art form.
Do you speak French before studying in France?
I took courses French 1,2,3 while in HKBU. I did take private lessons after that. However I had never been a good student, my effort are like the minimal. Yet, being thrown into a city, where French was needed in every aspects of living, from shopping to opening a bank account, to dining out, it sure boosted my French ability quickly.
