Prof. Stephen J. Wang is a Full Professor in UX Design and Design Intelligence at the School of Design, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Join us on March 23rd during the France & HK Digital Design Day @PolyU where he will be giving a keynote speech, moderating and speaking during exciting panel discussions on topics ranging from Social Innovation, to Interactive Media & Animation.

Prof. Stephen J. Wang will be giving a keynote speech, and participating in a panel discussion on "Social Innovation - Inside the Creative Process of “Design for All”" on March 23rd (Tues) from 3:05 - 5:15 pm (HK time). He will also be moderating a panel discussion on "Design & Technology - Dive Deep into the Heart of Interactive Media & Animation" on March 23rd (Tues) from 5:45 – 7:15 pm (HK time). Both sessions are held as part of the FRANCE & HK DIGITAL DESIGN DAY @POLYU

Prof. Stephen J. Wang

Prof. Stephen J. Wang (PhD MA M.Eng BA, SFHEA) is Full Professor in UX Design & Design Intelligence at School of Design. Before this role, Stephen was the joint Head of MA/MSc Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) and MA/MSc Global Innovation Design (GID) programmes at Royal College of Art, which were delivered jointly with Imperial College London; and the RCA Director of RCA-IIS Tokyo Design Lab, London.

Before the RCA, Stephen was Senior Lecturer and the Program Director of Interaction Design in the Department of Design and Founding Director of the Monash, Tsinghua and Zokei University joint laboratory the International Tangible Interaction Design Lab. He has a PhD in Architecture Design from Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai), an MA in Interaction Design from Tama Art University, Tokyo, an MEng in Simulation Technology from the Royal Melbourne Institution of Technology, Melbourne, and a BA in Industrial Design from the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, Beijing.

Before working at Monash University, Stephen was a Professor at Tokyo Zokei University, Japan, Senior Lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia and a professional designer at several design consulting firms. His design practice focuses on innovation in interactive installations, interactive controlling systems and informational products.

The focus of Stephen’s research and practice is the exploration of new design methods, technology possibilities and related curriculum development in the field of innovative design. In recent years, he has published peer-reviewed papers in journals including Material Horizons and PLOS ONE, patents, book chapters and authored academic books with Springer and Tsinghua University Press. As an experienced interaction and industrial designer, he has been involved in commercial product development, led major research projects and exhibited across Australia, China and Japan.
