2025 European Heritage Days Recap
Campus France Hong Kong and the French Alumni Association in Hong Kong and Macau (FAA) proudly organised the grand opening ceremony of the Europe Heritage Days 2025 event series on 13 September, marking a significant milestone in the Association’s actions since its establishment in 2004.

The opening ceremony was graced by two distinguished officiating guests, Mr. Bertrand Lortholary, Ambassador from France to China and Mrs. Christile Drulhe, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau.
“I am delighted to see that the French concept of European Heritage Days (Journées européennes du Patrimoine) has also taken roots in Hong Kong, confirming our joint interest in protecting cultural heritage but also shedding light on the historical connections between France and Hong Kong,” said Mr. Ambassador Lortholary.

He emphasized that the success of the series stems from the work of the committee members of the FAA, from Hong Kong and Macau who studied in France. “By joining forces – alumni and stakeholders of the Hong Kong civil society from France and Hong Kong will continue to develop meaningful cultural and historical projects,” added Mr. Ambassador Lortholary.
Mr. Kennic Tong, President of the FAA, emphasized the roles of alumni who studied in France, “Being an alumnus of France is more than a line on a CV — it shaped the way we look at cities, at public space, and at the stories buildings tell. That is why, for the FAA, heritage is not a souvenir to be admired from a distance but a responsibility: to learn, to share knowledge, and to put our time and expertise where it matters.”

Architectural Visit

The opening ceremony was followed by a guided site visit to the Christ the King Chapel, animated by Dr. Charles Lai, architectural historian and researcher in Hong Kong. Our participants were introduced to the French presence in Hong Kong in the field of architecture and construction, before being led on a tour of the Church, where Dr. Lai deciphered the details and history behind the Church.
The French Alumni Association would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres, Dr. Charles Lai, and Prof Joseph Chan for making this event series a success.
