Before you apply for our scholarship
Q: I am planning to pursue an MBA in France. Is my programme eligible for this scholarship?
A: No, an MBA is not eligible for the France Excellence Yersin Scholarship.
Q: Is an undergraduate programme in France eligible for this scholarship?
A: No, undergraduate programmes in France are not eligible for this scholarship.
Q: My master’s programme in France is under the apprentissage (apprenticeship), formation continue and/or the alternance regime, am I eligible for the scholarship?
A: No, all these study regimes are not eligible for the scholarship. Only a master’s programme under the formation initiale shall be eligible. Make sure that you discuss this point with the Admissions Office of the respective French higher education prior to the application of the France Excellence Yersin scholarship.
Q: What is evaluated during the scholarship selection process?
A: We look into your academic, professional and extracurricular background during the first screening. Note that the France Excellence Yersin Scholarship is allocated to students who demonstrate excellent performance. We are also looking for candidates who could be remarkable leaders who strive for further developments and international understanding in their respective fields.
Q: Do I need to speak French to apply for this scholarship?
A: We do appreciate candidates who some proficiency in French, however, those who do not speak French will not be put at a disadvantage. Note that there are more than 1700 programmes in France that are taught in English!
Q: Suppose that I am a scholarship awardee of the France Excellence Yersin Scholarship. I first started my master’s studies in France, however, the programme allows us to do the rest of my semester(s) overseas. Will I be still eligible to get the monthly allowance?
A: You will only be getting the monthly allowance if your courses are conducted in France. You will need to notify us when you are applying for the scholarship and/or during the course of your master’s programme in France, if such circumstances arise.
Q: Could my tuition fees in France by the France Excellence Yersin scholarship?
A: The France Excellence Yersin scholarship only covers tuition fees from a public university in France under the authority of the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research.
i. Note that some programmes in a French public higher education institution do not confer a national degree per se. In these programmes/institutions, none of your tuition fees will not be covered by the Yersin scholarship.
ii. The France Excellence Yersin Scholarship does not cover any tuition fees in a French private higher education institution.
In either case, you are still entitled to the other benefits of the scholarship, including, but not limited to, your monthly allowance, exemption of the visa application fees and the round-trip flight tickets.

Once you are a laureate of our scholarship
Q: If I am a France Excellence Yersin Scholarship awardee, am I entitled to free accommodation in France?
A: No, even if you are a France Excellence Yersin scholarship holder, you are not entitled to free accommodation. Yet, the Campus France Agency will assist you to find an accommodation at a price that is lower than the market rate (but there is no guarantee about your preferred location).
Q: My master’s programme in France lasts for 3 years in total, am I still eligible for this scholarship?
A: Note that the France Excellence Yersin scholarship only covers two years of your master’s studies in France, i.e., M1 and M2. Therefore, you will not be covered for three years in total but only for two years maximum of the renewal has been accepted by the Consulate general of France in Hong Kong and Macau.
Q: My master’s degree in France allows me to do a gap year (French: année de césure) after the end of my M1. Will my scholarship be automatically renewed for my M2 ?
A: If you choose to take a gap year after your first year as a laureate you will not be able to get the scholarship for the second year. If such circumstance arises, you must re-apply for the scholarship on the following website: https://yersin-hongkong-campusfrance.org/. The Consulate general of France shall not take any responsibility for not reminding awardees to reapply for their scholarship incase of a gap year.
Q: Suppose that I am a laureate of the scholarship and I would like to visit France/Europe before the semester starts. May I know if it is possible to help me buy a flight ticket 1 month before the semester starts?
A: A round-trip flight might included in the France Excellence Yersin scholarship coverage (it is subject to confirmation each year). However, it is not possible for Campus France to help you buy a flight ticket one month before your semester starts.
In most cases, Campus France could only buy a flight ticket two to three days prior to the start date of your semester (as indicated on your admission letter).
If you plan to go to France one week earlier, you must notify Campus France and the Consulate general via email at the time of the announcement of your scholarship results.
Q: My master’s programme includes an internship requirement. Can I still receive the monthly allowance when I am conducting an internship in France/overseas?
A:
- For a mandatory internship in France or overseas towards the end of your master
- It must be clearly stated on your syllabus
- Your monthly allowance will be maintained according to the syllabus (cannot exceed 6 months)
- For a non-mandatory internship
- You will not receive the monthly allowance during your internship
- The scholarship benefits will be ceased on the last date of your stay in your French higher education institution.
Q: What are the duties of an awardee of the France Excellence Yersin Scholarship?
A: Awardees are expected to respond to the Consulate’s emails punctually. They would also be required by Campus France to share their testimonials from time to time during the course of their master’s degree in France and to send a short report at the end of their stay in France.
